When we first started making content for TEM, we decided not to post time sensitive content for awareness days because we believe everything and everyone is impacted by capitalism and the toxic marketing strategies that feed it.

We tried focusing on awareness months in our newsletter but quickly realized that our international reach means we have to account for several Black History or Pride months. Then it became a game of how to raise awareness correctly and without leaving out others. And that is obviously besides the point.

Yes, this could mean that nobody gets the attention they deserve from us. However, our work is focused on communication – which permeates everything, from beginning to end.

So we decided to focus on providing as many resources as we can to create as much awareness as possible, and to point to them as often as we can.

In essence, ‘including everyone’ needs to be part of the original ingredients when creating any type of communication.

That is especially true for accessibility. It gets overlooked so often when there are lots of simple tools available now and there are so many people that rely on them.

And would you look at that, it’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day and one of our newest team members, @accessreimagined, is a disabled woman. And GAAD’s theme this year is digital accessibility! 😅 This is essentially a disclaimer that a convergence like this doesn’t happen all the time, but it did today 😊

Here’s the thing: Inclusion means **everyone**. So unless your intersections keep you from being able to set proper colour contrast, write alt text and image descriptions, capitalize your hashtags, and create video captions, …start there. And then keep going!

Scarcity has been on our minds a lot, recently.

Not just the tactics built around it, but how we cope within a system built on a foundation of lack and needing to take advantage to get ahead.

Like; how clients might not share their budget with us because they’re afraid we’ll take advantage – and how they are right to be, because we are taught to take as much as we can get.

You know, those times you proposed a price and the client immediately accepted. Didn’t you also kick yourself thinking you could have asked for more?

We are supposed to feel this way. Capitalism needs us to live in minor existential dread so we keep craving ‘more’.

Most of it is made up to make a profit. But whether it’s real or imagined, it FEELS real.

What we’re experiencing is a classic withholding strategy that those having lived through emotional abuse know well.

We are all responding to the trauma of scarcity.

The system is the abuser.

Current marketing formulas are based on rugged individualism. We want to create the antidote to this.

No one single person has all the answers. There’s just experience we can share and learn from.

Our work has shown us that to build an ethical marketplace, every step we take has to be rooted in collective creation.

We know this because through the years, our team and the conversations we have had have been the single most powerful ingredient of TEM.

Our team Slack is a place where we can show up with our questions and discoveries without the fear of being judged.

We’re sure that the person reading and commenting will know we have the best intentions, we’re savvy, and we’re here to learn.

When we started working on our Mighty Networks community, we knew we wanted to bring the beauty of our Slack to a broader container, including all of you.

We are not here to tell you how to experience things or how to market.

We’d like you to learn and grow with us in a mindset of humble inquiry.

Share your thoughts and how you’ve solved a problem. Bring a new perspective. Gain a new perspective.

As a collective, we can create and recreate a new marketplace. Instead of a fixed place, it becomes a fluid state made of continuous learning.
